Dover Counselling Centre Changes Direction

Dover Counselling Centre announces a strategic change of direction, moving away from providing direct counselling services to focus on strengthening the local voluntary sector through partnership building, grant support, training and organisational development.

Dover Counselling Centre was established in the aftermath of the Herald of Free Enterprise disaster and for nearly four decades has developed high-quality approaches, processes and training that have contributed towards modern mental health practice. Despite the Centre’s long record of clinical excellence, rising competition from free statutory and third-sector services has made it increasingly difficult to sustain a paid counselling arm. To preserve the charity’s ability to serve the community, the trustees have therefore decided to cease offering direct counselling and to redeploy the organisation’s expertise and resources into supporting other charities and pursuing mergers with like-minded organisations.

For current clients: We will provide clear, transition plans. Existing clients will continue to be looked after until such time that their treatment has completed. We will also transfer records securely where required.
